2023 School Garden Contest Results Announced

The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture and Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Team are excited to announce the 2023 Statewide School Garden Contest results!

Farm to Early Care and Education Resources

Farm to early care and education (Farm to ECE) offers increased access to the same three core elements of local food sourcing, school gardens and food and agriculture education to enhance the quality of the educational experience in all types of ECE settings (e.g., preschools, child care centers, family child care homes, Head Start/Early Head Start, programs in K – 12 school districts). Farm to ECE offers benefits that parallel the goals and priorities of the early care and education community including emphasis on experiential learning opportunities, parent and community engagement and life-long health and wellness for children, families and caregivers.

Resources available for classrooms, cafeterias and families

These free educational resources were created for classrooms, cafeterias and families to promote Oklahoma-grown vegetables and fruits offered during meals. The free online resources for cafeterias include posters and recipes promoting a variety of locally-grown specialty crops such as tomatoes, berries, watermelon, squash, asparagus, carrots, cucumbers, peppers, peaches, sweet potatoes, broccoli and radishes.

Oklahoma MyPlate offers resources for teachers, parents, and students to guide them in making healthy food choices and to learn about the producers who raise and grow the food.

Fresh, Healthy, Locally Grown Food for Good Health

Farm to School brings Oklahoma grown food into school cafeterias giving students the opportunity to taste farm fresh foods and learn how their food is grown. It inspires farmers to sell their products to schools and encourages schools to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables as well as other healthy, local products from Oklahoma farmers.

Overview of Oklahoma Farm to School

Farm-to-school efforts are taking place in over 2035 school districts in at least 39 states, including Oklahoma. Learn more about the program and how it is improving the health of school children and helping our local farmers
